The 3rd annual Myakka Blues Festival will be held on Monday, May 26th from 11am to 7pm at Snook Haven in Venice. If you haven’t had a chance to explore Snook Haven and you’re a music lover, this could be just the event for you!
Snook Haven is situated right on the Myakka River and the property is like a step back in time. Since 1988 it’s been open to the public as a fishing camp with a boat ramp and a cook shack (the site of the current restaurant). The restaurant has become a Florida landmark and gained notoriety as one of the finest examples of “Old Florida” on the West Coast of the state.
In 1987, The State of Florida designated the Myakka as one of only two “Wild and Scenic Rivers” in the state, a federal designation designed to preserve the Myakka River basin in its natural state. Sarasota County purchased the property in 2006 in an effort to further protect this showcase of an earlier era as part of the Parks system. The restaurant and related activities as operated as a public/private partnership with concessionaire Smack Dab on the River, a subsidiary of Venice’s own Sharky’s on the Pier.
