My husband and I have lived in Sarasota for decades and had never been (by land) to the Venice Jetty’s! What a shame! It is such a great place-old Florida at its mostly undisturbed finest.
We parked in the large county parking lot and paid a visit to the North Jetty Fish Camp which is a little bait and food store right on the banks of the Jetty. They serve hamburgs and hot dogs and other snacks and have beer and wine. They also have bait and tackle for the fishermen and women. The Fish Camp shack is so neat with little wooden desks to sit and read a magazine while waiting for your food order or to chat with one of the friendly local old-timers.
You can relax on the banks of the jetty and watch the boats come and go in the Venice Inlet and enjoy awesome gulf breezes or walk the rocks out to the point into the Gulf of Mexico-great fishing too. There are pretty tame pelicans that patrol up and down the sidewalk begging for food as if they owned the place.
We highly recommend a visit here. Simply head onto the South end of Casey Key from US41 on Albee Farm rd. Once you go over the bridge and hit the key (at Nokomis Beach), turn left to the end.Missy Cleary is a Sales Associate with The Cleary Group at RE/MAX Alliance Group in Sarasota.
